326 MWh Jurong Island Energy Storage System
The Singapore Energy Storage System is Southeast Asia’s largest utility-scale BESS to date, delivering 326 MWh of grid-connected storage on Jurong Island.
Developed and delivered in partnership with an established regional energy player, the project was deployed in record time. It enhances grid resilience, stabilises renewable integration, and demonstrates proven, large-scale battery performance within a live national grid environment.

Optimising grid demand during critical periods
The Singapore ESS actively discharges stored energy during peak demand periods, reducing strain on the grid, minimising reliance on peaking generation, and improving overall system efficiency during high-load conditions.
Balancing energy across time periods
By storing excess energy during low-demand periods and dispatching it later, the ESS enables effective load shifting, improving utilisation of generation assets and supporting a more balanced, predictable grid profile.
Rapid response to grid signals
The system responds dynamically to grid operator signals, charging or discharging in real time to support grid stability, frequency control, and demand-response programmes within Singapore’s tightly regulated power system.
Strengthening system resilience
Designed for resilience, the ESS provides instantaneous backup support, helping maintain power continuity during system disturbances and enhancing the grid’s ability to recover from unexpected outages or disruptions.
Enabling islanded and hybrid operations
The ESS supports islanded and microgrid operations, demonstrating the capability to stabilise local power networks and operate independently when required, a critical feature for future decentralised energy systems.
Supporting grid stability functions
Beyond energy storage, the system delivers ancillary services such as frequency regulation and voltage support, reinforcing grid stability as renewable penetration increases across Singapore’s energy mix.
Turning renewables into reliable power
By smoothing intermittency and dispatching energy when solar generation fluctuates, the ESS enables capacity firming, transforming variable renewable energy into reliable, dispatchable power for the grid.
Deferring infrastructure upgrades
Strategically deployed, the ESS alleviates congestion at critical grid nodes, supporting transmission and distribution networks and reducing the need for immediate, capital-intensive grid infrastructure expansions.
